Guwahati, 12 May, 2025: Proudly rooted in heritage and driven by purpose, Luxmi Group continues to lead with excellence in the global tea industry. Luxmi Group owns 25 tea estates across the world, including Makaibari in Darjeeling and Fulbari in the Terai region of West Bengal. It also has 12 estates in Assam, 6 in Tripura, and 4 in Rwanda. The group produces 30 million kilos of tea annually, reaching markets worldwide. This time, Luxmi Group reaffirms its commitment to the nation by supporting Bharat ke Veer. A portion of the company’s tea sales this month will be donated to this cause, underscoring the company’s long-standing legacy of patriotism.
Luxmi Tea was born out of resistance. In 1912, during British colonial rule, P.C. Chatterjee, a freedom fighter, planted the seeds of what would become Luxmi Tea on the red soil of Tripura. Taking on the might of the Empire, Chatterjee established an Indian-grown, Indian-owned tea enterprise as a symbol of self-reliance. Luxmi was never just a business; it was a statement of economic freedom. Chatterjee’s vision showed that excellence could be achieved independent of colonial control, creating a legacy of self-respect that has endured for over a century.
As Luxmi Group has grown, sustainability has become a cornerstone of its operations. Makaibari, one of the group’s flagship estates in Darjeeling, is globally recognized for its commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly practices. The estate has been a pioneer in organic farming, working with nature rather than against it. With a focus on preserving biodiversity and fostering local communities, Makaibari is a shining example of Luxmi’s commitment to sustainable tea production.
Additionally, Luxmi’s broader initiatives focus on innovation in tea cultivation, ensuring that every estate, from Assam to Rwanda, adheres to the highest standards of environmental responsibility. The company’s expansion into these diverse regions has been marked by an unwavering dedication to eco-friendly practices and the promotion of ethical business models.
Today, as Luxmi continues to grow, the brand remains true to its founding principles. The same commitment to quality, integrity and sustainability that guided its expansion is now demonstrated in its unwavering support for Bharat ke Veer. Rudra Chatterjee, Managing Director of Luxmi Group, emphasized, “Luxmi Tea was born during the freedom struggle, and our brave soldiers uphold that freedom every day. Supporting our Bharat ke Veer is a small contribution to those who serve and protect the country. We are humbled by their sacrifice,”
From its humble origins in Tripura to becoming a global name in tea production, Luxmi Tea continues to pour the spirit of freedom, sustainability and gratitude into every cup, standing tall with its rich legacy of service to the nation and the planet.
