P Shivakumar, Director of the Kaziranga National
Park informed G Plus that the rhino was around 25
to 30 years old. It has been suspected that the
poachers came from Biswanath Chariali.
As per sources, the poachers were spotted inside
the Park a few days back. An operation was
reportedly launched by officials to track them.
Notably, Assam has seen a steep decline in rhino
poaching in the past few years. From as high as 27
rhinos being killed by poachers in 2013 and 2014,
the numbers have declined to just 1 in 2021, a
record low in 21 years.
The poachers had taken away the rhino
informed sources.
