Guwahati, June 2, 2025 — In recognition of Menstrual Hygiene Day (May 28), Luxmi Tea organized impactful awareness programs across its Attabarrie and Shyamguri Tea Estates, reaching hundreds of female workers and their dependents with essential information on menstrual health and hygiene.
Attabarrie Tea Estate: 4-Day Awareness Campaign Culminates in Central Event
At Attabarrie Tea Estate, a four-day Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Program was conducted from May 28 to May 31, 2025, targeting workers and their families across all four divisions. The initiative aimed to foster better understanding and promote healthy menstrual hygiene practices within the community.
The campaign began with division-level sessions on May 28 and concluded with a central event on May 31, organized in collaboration with the UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University. The final session saw enthusiastic participation and featured two distinguished guest speakers:
- Bijoya Lakshmi Pathak, Retired Professor, Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Assam Medical College, Assam and presently a private practitioner with a 56 year experience in this field.
- Lonee Dowerah, Research Associate, UGC Centre for Women’s Studies, Dibrugarh University
Both experts delivered insightful and interactive sessions, addressing common concerns and encouraging open dialogue to dispel myths around menstruation. The forum empowered attendees with practical knowledge and highlighted the critical role of hygiene in ensuring health and dignity.
Shyamguri Tea Estate: Single-Day Multi-Site Outreach
On May 28, Shyamguri Tea Estate conducted a wide-reaching awareness program across multiple sites within the estate. The initiative covered 270 female workers, focusing on key aspects of menstrual hygiene — including infection prevention, personal hygiene management, and breaking long-standing cultural taboos.
The sessions were conducted by the Estate’s Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Community Health Officer (CHO), and supported by other medical and management staff, who led engaging discussions to promote healthier practices and raise awareness on this often under-discussed topic.
These initiatives reflect Luxmi Tea’s strong commitment to supporting the health, empowerment, and dignity of women within its tea estate communities.
