Kolkata Knight Riders came into the auction with the highest purse at Rs. 64.30 crore. The three-time champion was the highest spender among teams, spendings Rs. 62.95 crore. Chennai Super Kings was next, shelling out Rs. 41 crore to pick nine players.

Cameron Green was expected to attract the top bids ahead of the auction, and that is exactly how it turned out to be. The Australian all-rounder went to Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs. 25.20 crore, becoming the most expensive overseas player in the league’s history.

Matheesha Pathirana was the second in the list of top buys, going to KKR again for Rs. 18 crore.

Among the Indian players, it was two uncapped players who got the highest bids. CSK acquired Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma for Rs. 14.20 crore each.

All 10 teams were able to fill their allocated 25 slots. The teams needed to fill 77 slots between them, and they did so by spending a cumulative Rs. 215.45 crore.

An accelerated auction is the final, fast-paced phase of the IPL auction, designed to clear remaining players once teams have filled most of their squads. Before this round begins, franchises submit a shortlist of unsold players they are still interested in. Only those names are called out.

Bidding moves quickly, often with little pause between players. If there is no immediate bid, the player is declared unsold and the auction moves on.

The accelerated auction does not change any rules on base price, overseas limits, or squad size. It simply speeds up the process.

The accelerated round in IPL 2026 auction will start after the first 70 players have been presented, and will cover the remaining players.

Our correspondent Amol Karhadkar pings from Abu Dhabi that 42 players will come up in the accelerated auction, which is coming up next.

Rajasthan Royals is another team which has relied on younger players this time. Apart from the big signing of Ravi Bishnoi worth Rs. 7.20 crore, RR has picked three uncapped players.

With Rs. 28.40 crore spent on just two uncapped players, CSK has clearly pivoted in terms of its approach at auctions. Known to invest in senior players who are established in the league, CSK has now preferred to get young players who can offer long-term returns.

First of all, we are very happy. This is something that we were really focused on and hoping always fingers crossed because often anything can happen. I think we were quite happy with the price that we have got. You know, there was always a concern that had it gone higher than what we have done.

I think the fact is that we were very keen but not so attached. So, at some level if we felt that it would affect our auction, rest of the auction, we will let it go. And so, fortunately that didn’t happen. It came within the range that we were extremely happy with that. I think he adds a lot to our team and especially with our new power coach (Andre Russell) who is on board, I think it’s a very nice thing to have a young one on the field. We know what he does at the international stage with the vibe, with the ball, position in which he plays. So, couldn’t be happier in the new conditions.

David Miller goes to Delhi Capitals for Rs. 2 crore, his base price. Cameron Green was the big signing in this set, going to KKR for a whopping sum of Rs. 25.50 crore.

There are no takers for Sarfaraz Khan at a base price of Rs. 75 lakh. He is UNSOLD as of now.

The 19th edition of the Indian Premier League will be held from March 26 to May 31, with the window communicated to franchise executives during the customary pre auction briefing on Monday night.

As the Indian Premier League gears up for its 19th leg, the 10 teams meet at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi for the mini auction for the 2026 season.

Through the tournament’s history, we’ve never quite had an auction where teams have had as contrasting needs as this year’s. On one hand, there is Kolkata Knight Riders which needs to fill up more than half its squad and goes in with a massive budget. On the other is Mumbai Indians with a settled core and heading to the auction with a little over Rs. 2 crore.

Naturally, the strategies for some teams will be more aggressive this time. Chennai Super Kings, much like KKR, is planning a revamp and has more than Rs. 43 crore to spend.

Others like Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants too have substantial amounts with them to influence the auction.
