The government must ensure the social and economic security of journalists and media: D.N. Chakraborty.
Guwahati, Nov 16: The profession of journalism is great and responsible and depends on the ideology. Therefore, the government should always be conscious of the universal security of journalists and media. Today on the occasion of National Press Day, eminent journalist intellectuals and journalists’ association of Assam’s president Dhirendranath Chakraborty said. The overall security of journalists and the media has to be ensured to be maintained he added. Bhupen Goswami, the chief advisor of JAA and National vice president of The National Union of Journalists India ,NUJI , who was present as the chief guest at the meeting held at the headquarters of the Journalists Association of Assam in Hangerabari, Guwahati, once again came to press for the introduction of the Journalist Protection Act in Assam. Referring to the principles of the Journalists’ Association of Assam and the National Union of Journalist India NUJI, Goswami called upon all journalists and media personnel of the state to unite in the matter of recovery of dues. He congratulating all the employees of the media, he further said that all sections of the people should help the journalists who serve selflessly on behalf of the people and on behalf of the people. In the context of the speech, senior journalist Goswami demanded the re-introduction of one-time relief and falcipitation of journalists who were closed by the Assam government as well as an increase in the journalist’s pension to Rs 20,000 and Referring to the principles of the Journalists’ Association of Assam and the National Union of Journalist India NUJI, Goswami called upon all journalists and media personnel of the state to unite in the matter of recovery of dues. In order to prevent the growing threats and harassment of the media and journalists and to ensure the safety of journalists at work, a strong ‘Protection of Journalists Act’ was enacted in the state and urged the government and the opposition to help the journalists survive with dignity.
