Guwahati, March 22 – The historic and sacred Maha Vishnu Tirtha, Shri Shri Ashwaklanta Temple in North Guwahati will once again celebrate Shri Shri Ashokashtami with devotion and a spiritual atmosphere. Surrounded by the footprints of Lord Vishnu and several mystical ponds, this revered temple will host the pious Ashokashtami festival from 1:30 AM on April 4 to midnight on April 5.
According to the temple management committee’s president, Dalai Laxeshwar Sharma, over a hundred thousand devotees are expected to visit, and special arrangements have been made for them. To ensure a smooth experience for pilgrims, accommodation, food distribution, and security measures have been put in place.
As per ancient beliefs, on the Ashokashtami tithi, the holy waters of the Ganges merge with the Brahmaputra River. As a result, performing pind daan (ritual offerings to ancestors), asthi visarjan (immersion of ashes), and shraddha (rituals for the departed souls) on this auspicious day grants moksha (salvation) to the departed souls. This is why a large number of devotees visit the temple on this occasion to perform these sacred rites.
With a heritage spanning over a hundred years, Shri Ashwaklanta Temple is revered as the “Second Gaya Tirtha,” continuing to be a center of faith and devotion for countless worshippers across generations.
