Gitangar Shatadal Sahitya Sabha’s Biennial Session Concludes: Durgeshwar Pathak’s Two Books Released

The biennial session of the Gitangar Sahitya Sabha concluded with a two-day program on March 29 and 30, 2025. On March 29 at 5:30 PM, a new committee was formed for the 2025-26 term following the rules of the Assam Sahitya Sabha. Dandiram Kakoti was elected as President, with Bhupen Sharma and Deepa Goswami as Vice Presidents. Rupa Goswami was appointed as Secretary, while Dhanjit Pathak and Ajita Devi Hazarika were chosen as Assistant Secretaries. Dr. Manoranjan Sharma Pathak was elected as Treasurer, Swapna Devi Sharma as Magazine Editor, and Bhupen Lahkar and Jintu Talukdar as Auditors, forming a 21-member committee.

On March 30 at 9 AM, Sabha President Padumi Pathak hoisted the Assam Sahitya Sabha flag, followed by a tribute to martyrs by educator Aparajita Borpuzari. After that, a local women’s group performed Diha Naam. The open session commenced at 11 AM, presided over by Padumi Pathak. The session began with an inaugural song by the Sabha’s women members. Editor Swapna Devi and advisor Durgeshwar Pathak coordinated the event.

The chief guest of the session was the outgoing President of Assam Sahitya Sabha, Dr. Suryakanta Hazarika. Notable speakers included Kamrup Metropolitan District Sahitya Sabha President Prafulla Barman, and distinguished guests Vishnu Deka, Jyotirmoy Kalita, and Arun Kumar Mohant. The session’s mouthpiece, “Geeta Jyoti”, was unveiled by former President Dr. Suryakanta Hazarika.

During the event, Durgeshwar Pathak’s third poetry collection, “Manor Bowoti Suti”, and second short story collection, “Chintab Bhinna Juti”, were released by Prafulla Barman and Vishnu Deka, respectively. Cultural performances included songs by Ranjita Moran, Padumi Pathak, and Konkalata Talukdar, along with Sattriya dance performances by Deeptimayi Srivastava and Bimili Choudhury. After the speech by President Padumi Pathak, the newly elected President formally took over responsibilities.

Gitangar Shatadal Sahitya Sabha’s editor, Swapna Devi, delivered a vote of thanks, and the event concluded with the rendition of the Assam State Anthem.
