National Disaster Management Authority Delhi conducted a multi state mock exercise wherein a disastrous scenario due to an earthquake of 8.1 magnitude was depicted in three states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland being the seismic zone V.
39 Assam Rifles alongwith all stakeholders incl NDRF, SDRF, PWD, Assam Police, DDMA, Electricity deptt, local NGOs and Media participated in the exercise. Five task forces were made which included Assam Rifles,
NDRF and Aapda Mitra volunteers and were given locations to conduct search and rescue operations.
The Mock exercise was aimed to rehearse the procedures and drills and to have better preparation plans for real time disaster situations. The immediate response by the joint teams were appreciated by the district administration.
