Tinsukia, 19 March 2026: Mahakali and Monkhooshi Division Garden Hospitals under Mahakali Tea Estate of Luxmi Tea Co Private Limited have been honoured with the ABITA Family Welfare Runners-Up Award 2025 at the 135th Annual General Meeting held in Jorhat. The award was received by Senior Medical Officer Dr. R. Sonowal on behalf of the hospital and was presented by Mr. S. Skind, Vice Chairman of the Indian Tea Association (ITA).
This prestigious recognition has been conferred in acknowledgment of the hospitals’ outstanding performance in implementing various family welfare and public health initiatives. The award highlights the institutions’ strong commitment to improving maternal and child health, strengthening family planning services, and delivering effective healthcare aligned with national and state health goals.

Expressing his pride in receiving the award, Dr. R. Sonowal, Senior Medical Officer, said, “This recognition is a reflection of our team’s continuous efforts to provide quality healthcare services to the community. Our focus has always been on ensuring safe motherhood, healthy children, and accessible family welfare services for all.”
Over the past year, the hospitals have demonstrated remarkable achievements compared to state health indicators. Notably, they have maintained a healthy birth rate by ensuring safe and well-monitored deliveries through comprehensive antenatal care and institutional delivery practices.
A key milestone achieved by the hospitals was zero maternal deaths, reflecting efficient healthcare management, timely medical intervention, and effective preventive care within the community.
Reflecting on the award, Mr. Narinder Singh, Manager of Mahakali Tea Estate, said, “This recognition is a proud moment for all of us. It reflects the unwavering dedication of our medical team and their commitment to delivering quality healthcare and improving the well-being of our community. We remain committed to raising the bar further in the years ahead.”
The hospitals also recorded significant improvement in Infant Mortality Rate (IMR). Through continuous monitoring of newborns, enhanced neonatal care, and targeted awareness programs for mothers, the hospitals ensured better health outcomes for infants.
In addition, the hospitals successfully achieved complete immunization coverage for children and pregnant women, safeguarding them against vaccine-preventable diseases and strengthening overall community health.
Another notable achievement was the improvement in Couple Protection Rate (CPR), accomplished through effective family planning counselling, awareness initiatives, and the availability of contraceptive services, enabling informed reproductive health decisions among families.
The award recognizes the dedicated efforts of the medical team and healthcare workers of Mahakali and Monkhooshi Division Garden Hospitals, whose unwavering commitment has significantly contributed to advancing family welfare and public health in the region.
The event was attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including Mr. S. Skind (Vice Chairman, ITA), Mr. Abhijit Sharma (Secretary, ABITA), and Mr. A. Dutta, renowned writer and Padma Shri awardee, along with representatives from TAI, NETA, and BCP.
