Assam Rifles laid wreath on freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu’s 33 rd death anniversary, commemorating her at Lunkhao Part-I village on 17 February 2026, to honor the freedom fighter’s legacy. The event was a tribute to Rani Gaidinliu’s courageous struggle against British Rule in India.

Born on January 26, 1915, Rani Gaidinliu was a spiritual and political leader who played a significant role in India’s freedom movement. At just 13 years old, she joined the Heraka movement, which aimed to drive out the British from Manipur.
The celebration included cultural performances by children, speeches and a reading competition to commemorate Rani Gaidinliu’s life and achievements.
Rani Gaidinliu’s story is an inspiration to many and her legacy continues to be celebrated across the country. She was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1982 and the Tamrapatra Freedom Fighter Award in 1972 among other national honors.
