AASU forms human chain against the use of plastics

Demanding complete ban on use of all kinds of plas tics in the district, Nagaon district body of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) formed a human chain in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner here today. Hundreds of students from the students’ organization participated in the stir and demanded to ban all kinds of plastic bags as well as other plastic products in the district and also patron ized an ecological balanc ing environment in the dis trict. During the agita tion, the protesters rever berated in the air with anti plastic slogans and urged the district administration to take strict measures to stop the use of plastics in all aspects. The organiza

tion also appealed to the general public to avoid the use of plastics in their day to day life. The district president and secretary of the organization respec tively Gauri Shankar Saikia and Amarjyoti Phukon said that although the district administration declared plastics as banned in the district, the people of the district were not aware of it and many businessmen and other commercial es tablishments of the district allegedly neglected the or der of the district adminis tration. Hence AASU will take initiatives to sensitize the general public as well as other businessmen about the hazards of plas tics as well as its effects on human life and other biodiversity on the planet soon, both the district lead ership added further.
