BISWANATH MLA CEREMONIALLY DISTRIBUTES ‘TAKE HOME RATION’ TO ANGANWADI CHILDREN, SAYS GOVT COMMITTED TO FIGHT MALNUTRITION
Biswanath Chariali, 30 October: Hon’ble MLA of Biswanath Mr. Promod Borthakur today ceremonially distributed Take Home Ration (THR) to children of Nilpur Anganwadi Centre in Biswanath constituency. The distribution of THR was done as part of Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) under the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme. The THR kit consisted of rice, dal, soybean, mustard oil, eggs, vegetables, etc. At today’s programme, around 15 children were ceremonially handed over THR kits.
Since closure of schools due to Covid pandemic, children are being provided with THR so that their nutritional intake isn’t affected. Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Borthakur said the government is committed to fight malnutrition among children and hence is ensuring that THR kit consists of nutritional food items and is provided to children every month. He said the purpose behind organising an event to distribute THR kits is to generate awareness among the beneficiaries that nutritious THR is their entitlement and that no child should be left out. Mr. Borthakur also declared to bear all medical expenses for a girl suffering from Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) under Shakomato Block.
Today’s programme was also attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Biswanath Ms. Liza Talukdar, SDO (Sadar) Mr. Dipan Barman, Assistant Commissioner Ms. Ananya Lahkar, Information and Public Relations Officer Mr. Supratim Dey, Child Development Project Officer of Shakomato Block Mr. Jyotish Baruah among others.
