ASSAM RIFLES REFUTES THE CLAIM OF ANY ALTERCATION WITH WOMENFOLK IN KANGPOKPI AREA
Assam Rifles strongly refute news published in Imphal Free Press on Sunday with respect to tension in Kangpokpi Area between women folk and Assam Rifles security column. A team of Assam Rifles deployed in the area of Hathilkhowa checked a house for construction of bunker as there were reports of firing from the same place during a previous firing incident, As there was no such construction, the team returned.
Later, on Saturday i.e. 24 Jun 23, a large crowd of approx 2000 people gathered in Kanglatombi and started demanding withdrawal of Assam Rifles from the area. SP, Imphal West who was already present in the area along with Manipur commandos tried to convince the crowd to disperse. The crowd started sit-in protest at Kanglatombi Bazar and also used earthmovers to dig the road to Hathikhowa. The crowd later dispersed by evening on Saturday.
During the entire event, Assam Rifles columns did not get involved in any altercation as reported by Imphal Free Press. Further, Captain Maningba is hailed as War Hero of the Country who fought the Chinese on our Northern Borders at Galwan and was also recognised and felicitated by Honourable CM Mr N Biren Singh.
Assam Rifles expresses deep concern over the unverified reports terming a War Hero as biased as also the newspaper resorting to ex parte news.
