Indus Towers Enhances Health & Hygiene for Girls in Government Schools Across Northeast India

Guwahati, 2 July 2025: Indus Towers Limited, one of the world’s largest telecom infrastructure companies, recently inaugurated seven new sanitation facilities in Kamrup, Mankachar, Goalpara, Barpeta, Darrang and Jorhat. The new facilities were inaugurated at by Shri Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Government of Assam, and Mr. Rajender Gurung, Circle CEO – NESA, Indus Towers Ltd., at an event held at Satgaon High School, Guwahati.

Aligned with the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, this hygiene and sanitation initiative is part of Indus Towers’ flagship Corporate Social Responsibility program, ‘Pragati’.

Shri Ranoj Pegu, Hon’ble Minister of Education, Government of Assam, said, “Access to proper sanitation plays a crucial role in promoting health and safety, especially for young girls. I appreciate the efforts of Indus Towers Limited and NEAID in improving school infrastructure in Assam. This initiative is well aligned with the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, and I look forward to seeing its positive impact on students’ well-being and attendance.”

The project addresses two critical pillars of girl child education – infrastructure and awareness. Alongside the construction of hygienic washrooms, the program includes comprehensive menstrual hygiene workshops designed to break social taboos and equip students with essential health knowledge, thereby cultivating confidence and informed decision-making. 

Mr. Rajender Gurung, Circle CEO, NESA – Indus Towers Limited highlighted “Through our flagship CSR program ‘Pragati’, we aim to address critical infrastructure gaps and empower the education of young girls in Assam. By providing safe and accessible sanitation facilities, the initiative aims to improve the health and hygiene for young girls in school. This supportive environment enables students to concentrate on learning, contributing to better attendance and long-term educational success.”

Indus Towers has built 23 clean and hygienic sanitation facilities in government schools across Northeast India. This project has been implemented by Northeast Centre for Equity Action on Integrated Development (NEAID).
